Greystones Fire Services tackled a fire on Wednesday which broke out in a vehicle parked outside a house at an estate in Newtownmountkennedy, Co Wicklow.

The alarm was raised at 5.20pm and a crew from Greystones Fire Station were immediately deployed to the scene at Merepark.

However, when they were on route to the incident, a second call was received to say that the fire from the vehicle in the driveway of a house had spread to a second vehicle and was also spreading to the façade of the house.

As a result a crew from Wicklow Town Fire Station were mobilised at 5.30pm to provide additional support to the crew from Greystones at the incident.

The Greystones fire crew quickly extinguished the two vehicles on arrival at the scene and prevented the fire spreading to the house. There was some fire damage to the front of the building. There were no reports of suspicious activity in the area and it is believed a fault with the vehicle led to it catching fire.
