A brawl has broken out at one of Wexford’s most prestigious golf clubs following allegations of on-course cheating.

The melee, which occurred on Friday afternoon last at Wexford Golf Club (WGC) in Mulgannon in beautiful spring sunshine, saw four men exchange blows at the putting area of the course. It is believed that allegations of cheating was the root cause of the shocking scene.

According to a source, an allegation was made in recent weeks that a number of players had been doctoring their scores during a recent tournament.

It is believed the accused group confronted their accusers on the course on Friday, leading to the violent scuffle which saw two separate fights break out as other players practised their putting.

Contacted for comment, the joint management committee of Wexford Golf Club said: “The club authorities are aware of the incident and will proceed and act in accordance with the club’s constitution and rules.”

A spokesperson for Wexford gardaí said that they were aware of the incident but that no official complaints had been made.
