CONOR McGregor may have made his name as a mixed martial artist in the Ultimate Fighting Championship but he’s appeared more times in court in recent years than the Octagon.
Before Nikita Hand’s successful civil case against him, his most recent court appearance was at the end of July when he narrowly avoided jail after being convicted of a series of “appalling” dangerous driving incidents in Dublin.
Judge David McHugh described McGregor's dangerous driving as "persistent, prolonged and deliberate" when he appeared at Blanchardstown District Court on July 31.
He convicted and fined McGregor €5,000 and banned him from driving for two years.
The judge also imposed a five month jail sentence suspended for two years.
McGregor admitted to the "appalling" episode of dangerous driving where he drove in a bus lane, jumped a red light and nearly collided with another vehicle.
McGregor told a garda "are you taking the piss" after he was asked to step out of his car on Dublin's M50.

He also told the garda he was waiting to get out of his car because he "needed his security to catch up".
McGregor was well used to court appearances by then and had 20 previous convictions, many of which were for road traffic offences.
Back in 2016 gardai launched an investigation after McGregor posted pictures online showing him wearing a balaclava and holding what looked like a firearm in his car in Crumlin in Dublin.
Gardai called to McGregor’s family home and spoke to him over the matter and he handed over two airsoft guns which his father had bought him for Christmas.
The guns were sent off for ballistic tests as a matter of procedure which confirmed they were airsoft weapons and he didn’t face any charges arising out of the incident,
Gardai advised McGregor that wearing a balaclava and posing and pointing what looks like firearm out the window of a car in Crumlin was not a good idea. He apologised to gardai over the matter.
He was convicted of a number of speeding offence in 2017 and 2018 leading to fines and driving bans.
In April 2018 he hit the headlines when along with an entourage he attacked a bus containing fighters at a UFC media event at the Barclay’s Centre in New York.
McGregor and around 20 pals carried out the attack targeting bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov and McGregor threw a trolley at a bus carrying the Russian fighter. Other objects were also thrown during the fracas and three people were injured.
McGregor and pal Cian Cowley ended up in court, where they were sentenced to community service and anger management classes.
Nurmagomedov had the last laugh when he comprehensively beat McGregor in a UFC fight in October 2018 forcing him to tap out after choking him.
McGregor went on to attack Nikita Hand in Dublin two months later. Ms Hand said he choked her multiple times and brought up his submission defeats when she claimed he said: “Now you know what it was like to be in the Octagon when I went down three times.”
In March 2019 McGregor was charged with strong-arm robbery and criminal mischief after stamping on a fan’s phone in Miami but those charges were later dropped.
The fan stopped co-operating with authorities after he dropped a separate civil lawsuit against McGregor after reaching a settlement.
The following month McGregor carried out an unprovoked assault on innocent customer Desmond Keogh in the Marble Arch pub in Drimnagh because Mr Keogh declined a free shot of McGregor’s Proper 12 Whiskey.
The incident was caught on video and McGregor was later convicted of assault and fined. He claimed to be remorseful over the incident and apologised in court.

However, McGregor subsequently bought the Marble Arch and posted a comment online saying: “Yeah, and yer man’s barred.”
In September 2020 McGregor was arrested and questioned in relation to an alleged attempted sexual assault and indecent exposure on the French island of Corsica. However, prosecutors later said they were not proceeding with the case due to lack of evidence.
In October 2021 Italian DJ and TV personality Francesco Facchinetti alleged that McGregor punched him in the face in an unprovoked attack at a party in Rome.
The incident was claimed to have occurred hours after McGregor had his child baptised at the Vatican. McGregor was never charged in relation to the incident but it was reported in 2022 that the matter was still under investigation.
Nikita Hand
An Irish woman claimed McGregor assaulted her on a yacht in Ibiza in July 2022. She made a statement to gardai after returning from Spain.
Spanish police launched an investigation into the matter while a civil action was also taken by the woman but she later withdrew the civil action.
A spokesperson for McGregor issued a statement saying he was “steadfast in his denial of all the accusations made by a guest on his boat”.
Gardai later investigated two separate incidents at the woman’s home in 2023 including a brick being thrown at her window and an attempt being made to burn out her car.
There was no suggestion either attack was related to her allegations against McGregor.
The former featherweight and lightweight Champion last fought inside the Octagon in 2021, where he suffered a broken leg in his loss to Dustin Poirier.
He was forced to pull out of the UFC 303 main event in June for a welterweight, non-title bout against popular lightweight Michael Chandler after he broke his toe.
McGregor has been vocal over his wish to get back into the sport and voiced his frustrations over his delayed return to the Octagon earlier this year.
Speaking to DAZN at Wembley Stadium for Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois, he declared: “I must get two fights in 2025. It’s the promised land. Who knows (who the next opponent will be). It does not matter. Whoever, let’s see. I’d like it to be Chandler. I wish him well and see where it goes.”
However, following yesterday’s verdict in the High Court it remains to be seen if McGregor has any future in the sport.
